Vernacular Productions
Vernacular Productions is a New York City based arts organization founded by director, Yvonne Conybeare, that produces and co-produces theater, dance, and dance-theater work inspired or informed by American vernacular dance, music, and theater, and seeks to increase participation in the vernacular performing arts.
To fund our production activity, we provide low-fee consulting and project management services to start-up non-profit arts organizations and artists in our community. These are like-minded artists, recreational dancers and community members that are engaged in creating, performing, teaching and/or providing opportunities for public participation in the vernacular arts.
We coordinate Rooftop Dance Community, and operate a rooftop and indoor space with a portable dance floor. We open our space to vernacular dance and music artists to teach small classes that give individual attention to the Rooftop Dance Community. And of course, we host Vernacular Production's theater events, social dances, music afternoons, rehearsals and performances in the space.
We keep the cost of our services low and seek additional funding for our productions through fundraising. Vernacular Productions is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the purposes of supporting the work of Vernacular Productions must be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
